2013 Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid to get 100 MPGe

While consumers aren’t exactly embracing electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids like the Toyota Prius and the Chevy Volt are getting warmer receptions. Now, Ford is adding another to that list: its 2013 Fusion model.

The 2013 Ford Fusion will be available as a plug-in hybrid as well as in gasoline and traditional hybrid models. It will feature all the latest gadgetry, including lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the latest version of the MyFordTouch infotainment system. Users will be able to control charging, heating and cooling remotely via the MyFordMobile system.

Most notably, perhaps, is the 2013 Fusion’s considerable range. The gasoline model will get 26 MPG city and 37 MPG highway, while the hybrid version will get 47 MPG city and 44 MPG highway. The Ford’s new plug-in model, the Ford Fusion Energi, will get approximately 100 MPGe (better than both the Chevy Volt and the Toyota Prius plug-in models). The Fusion Energi aims to be the world’s most efficient midsize car, Ford said in a statement.

Details on price are forthcoming, but according to the automaker, the 2013 Fusion will debut in the US later this year, while many design aspects will be incorporated into next year’s Mondeo in the European market.
